Watch Now: DON'T LOOK NOW
Released in Italy under the name A Venezia... un Dicembre rosso, this shocking British movie was directed by Nicolas Roeg and is considered a classic of the horror genre. Praised for its inventive editing and deep exploration of the grieving process, the movie packs a punch even in this day and age. Don’t Look Now follows a married couple played by Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland, who have recently lost their little daughter and are now trying to continue with their life. In Venice, the father accepts a commission to restore a local church, and soon the couple meets two sisters, one of which is clairvoyant and claims to be in contact with their deceased daughter. The wife believes them, but the father rejects these insinuations, until he bears witness to strange events that suggest that he is in danger and that his daughter is trying to warn him from beyond the grave.
Alan Scott and Chris Bryant wrote the script based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier, which was published in her 1971 collection of stories named Not After Midnight, and other stories. Du Maurier saw the film and wrote a letter to Nicolas Roeg in which she praised his final product and expressed how much she was satisfied with how the filmmaker transferred her story to the big screen.
