Watch Now: FOR A COP'S HIDE

Legendary cinema icon Alain Delon’s directorial debut came in 1981 with Pour la peau d’un flic, translated as For a Cop’s Hide, and captured the interest of French moviegoers instantly, with more than 2.3 million tickets sold during its theatrical run. This crime thriller, with a screenplay written by Delon and British-French writer Christopher Frank and based on Jean-Patrick Manchette’s novel Que d’os, turned out a solid box office hit and garnered positive reviews. For a Cop’s Hide is a potent and fast-paced crime film directed by a steady, self-assured hand of a man experienced in telling such stories.

When a former police detective is hired by an old lady to investigate the disappearance of her blind daughter, only for the elderly employer to end up dead soon after, the detective is thrown headfirst into a vicious cycle of manipulation and deception that would lead him right into the position of being hunted down by the whole police force. With great supporting roles played by Anne Parillaud, Michel Auclair, Daniel Ceccaldi and Jean-Pierre Darras, For a Cop’s Hide is one of the best representatives of the 1980s French crime cinema and should be a treat for both fans and newcomers alike.
