The economy being in a rather bad state, four friends come up with a daring plan to fly off to Colombia to rob a drug lord, announcing to their families they’re going on a fishing trip for the weekend. With little to no combat training and a rather naïve perception of what awaits in the Colombian jungle, they are supplied with weapons and start discussing what they’ll do with their money. As it’s often the case, the plan goes horribly wrong, and this inept group of buddies has both the drug gang and the local rebels on their tail as bullets start flying over their shoulders.
British writer and director Stewart Raffill got an assignment to shoot a documentary about Spanish prisoners who ended up behind bars because they had smuggled hashish out of Morocco, which is when he conceived the idea of High Risk, this adventure heist film that would gather a very respectable crew composed of James Brolin, Lindsay Wagner, James Coburn, Anthony Quinn, Ernest Borgnine, Cleavon Little, Bruce Davison and Chick Vennera. With a score provided by The X-Files’ Mark Snow and based on a script written by the director himself, High Risk is an utterly exciting action adventure flick absolutely worth your time. It’s a real shame it didn’t get the kind of release it deserved, as the distributor soon went broke, but it’s never too late to give it the love it deserves.
