Watch Now: HIT AND RUN
David Marks is a New York cab driver, recovering from the trauma of his young wife dying in a hit-and-run accident. One uneventful night he gets a customer, a mysterious yet breathtaking woman who asks him to drive her to a house outside of New York. He is well-paid for this assignment and soon the drive becomes a regular arrangement. But with each drive, David is more and more fascinated by the woman and by her destination. One night he decides to find out more about her, but ends up being blamed for her murder. Now David has to run from the police and uses the help of his fellow cab drivers to stay out of prison long enough to prove his innocence.
Hit and Run is based on Lucille Fletcher’s 1975 novel entitled Eighty Dollars to Stamford. Even though she originally became famous for her radio plays—one of which (Sorry, Wrong Number) Orson Welles dubbed the best radio play ever written—she also wrote novels and many of her radio plays became novels. She is widely regarded as one of the best writers of her time in the mystery-thriller genre, making the basis for the movie a strong foundation upon which director Charles Braverman built this overlooked thriller.
