Apart from being best known for his role in Mel Brooks’ 1974 satire Blazing Saddles, American actor and director Jack Starrett also acted in several biker movies, such as The Born Losers (1967), Hells Angels on Wheels (1967), Angels from Hell (1968) and Hell's Bloody Devils (1970). He started directing in 1969 and two of his movies were also biker-themed: Run, Angel, Run (1969) and Nam’s Angels (1970). Both films starred William Smith, who worked as an actor on roughly three hundred films and tv productions. So, it should come as no surprise that Starrett joined forces with the prolific thespian once again, this time on his 1976 film Hollywood Man, which Smith co-wrote (along with Tom Farese, Ray Girardin and Dominic Gombardella), starred in and produced.

Why should it come as no surprise? Because Hollywood Man centers around Hollywood action star and director Rafe Stoker who invested all of his money into a biker movie, despite the genre no longer being all the rage. If he wants to complete his film, Rafe must ask a mob investor to finance his project, with all of his assets and property as collateral. This, of course, leads the mob boss to hire bikers to sabotage the film’s production. Hollywood Man is a signature Starrett film, a dynamic exploitation movie that has something for every low-budget film fan—high-stakes drama, impressive stunts and graphic violence.
