Watch Now: KILL ME AGAIN
In 1989, filmmaker John Dahl shot a film based on a script he wrote with his brother Rick – a neo-noir thriller dealing with deception and betrayal intriguingly called Kill Me Again. Led by a great cast comprised of Val Kilmer, Michael Madsen and Joanne Whalley-Kilmer, this is a thoroughly entertaining somewhat Hitchcockian tale of a man and a woman stealing a million dollars from the mob, only to try to double-cross each other. As the woman flees with the cash, she hires a private detective to help her stage her own death, and in the process they start their doomed affair.
Set in the seedy Nevada desert, Kill Me Again is a fine example of a well-crafted thriller. With a seemingly straightforward plot of a couple of morally corrupt individuals spiraling on a self-destructive path and leaving a bloody trail behind them, this neo-noir has a couple of tricks up its sleeve, with plot twists effectively used to elevate the narrative’s quality. The backstabbing, unscrupulous role played by Joanne Whalley-Kilmer is even more interesting when seen as the possible roots for The Last Seduction’s conniving central character five years later. A really dynamic picture that guarantees at least one fun viewing.
