Watch Now: LE GANG
In another one of his series of films centered around Alain Delon, Jacques Deray directed Le Gang, a French-Italian crime film that gained a lot of attention from domestic moviegoers when it came out. Just as it was the case on two years younger Flic Story, Le Gang was also based on the writing of Roger Borniche, an ex-detective turned novelist. Shot by respected cinematographer Silvano Ippoliti and carried on the tunes of composer Carlo Rustichelli, Le Gang tells the story of five small-time criminals who decide to form a gang at the same time World War Two approaches its finish line. Having successfully orchestrated several daring hits, the gang gets nationwide recognition and media fame when they start being called “the front wheel drive gang”.
With Laura Betti, Maurice Barrier and Raymond Bussières in the supporting roles, Le Gang was shot on a script penned by French novelists Alphonse Boudard and Jean-Claude Carrière, who adapted it from Borniche’s novel. Le Gang is an entertaining, easy-to-enjoy addition to Deray and Delon’s body of work and should not be missed by fans of either of these men.
