Roy Krenkel is one of the most acclaimed and influential fantasy, science fiction and action-adventure illustrators of all time. In 1975, inspired by his lifelong fascination with the work of the 19th-century French painter of antiquity Jean-Leon Jerome, Krenkel created one of the crowning achievements of his hallowed career: a series of paintings chronicling an epic and intense interpretation of several classic myths and cultural monuments, that he termed The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. While Krenkel was known to regard his artistry as "disposable", his pieces in this vein have easily stood the test of time, and frequently command massive sums at auction.
